Hail at last, Westman! Well met!


Tolkien provided a translation for the second part of that greeting only, in a letter to Rhona Beare (n° 230 in Humphrey Carpenter's edition). The first part is interpolated after the nearby following salutation to Frodo - translated, that is in Common Speech in the fictional frame of The Lord of the Rings - which seems to be of similar form.
