This short word occurs in the tale The Wanderings of Húrin, in The War of
the Jewels p. 254. The meaning is given immediately after the Sindarin phrase. A note p. 301 states that there exists an alternative version Tûl
The text is transcribed in tengwar or “letters of Fëanor” according to the mode of Beleriand created by Tolkien and illustrated for instance by the Moria gate inscription in The Lord of the Rings, book II, chapter 4. We made use of Måns Björkman’s typeface Tengwar Parmaite.
