Et voici quelques compléments d'informations à propos de ce que dit Jim Allan sur ces noms qu'il classe dans la catégorie des "high-sounding hobbit names" (p. 191) :<p><b>Isumbras,</b> <i>isen</i> 'iron' + <i>bras</i> 'arm';<p><b>Ferumbras,</b> perhaps French <i>feron</i> 'iron-worker, blacksmith' (< Lat. <i>ferrum</i> 'iron') + <i>bras</i> 'arm';<p><b>Fortinbras,</b> <i>fortin</i> perhaps derives originally from <i>fard-</i> 'journey' (cf. <i>Eng. to fare, forth</i>) and the name would derive from an earlier <i>Fortibras</i>. But it would probably be understood as from French <i>fortin</i> 'strong' (a diminutive of normal <i>fort</i> 'strong') + <i>bras</i> 'arm';<p><b>Bandobras,</b> <i>bando</i> < <i>band</i> 'band, stripe, banner' + <i>bras</i> 'arm'.<p>En espérant que cela puisse te donner des éléments sur la signification de ces noms même si j'avoue me demander si Mr Allan et moi parlons tout à fait le même français ;-).<p>L.
