Tolkien knew The saga of Hrolf Kraki very well. One of his student at Leeds, Stella Mils, translated it under the supervision of Tolkien's colleague and close friend E.V.Gordon. Several years later, Mills's translation was published as The saga of Hrolf Kraki (1933, with an introduction by gordon. This edition is dedicated to Gordon, Tolkien, and C.T.Onions, the lexicographer of the OED. Stella Mills received her B.A. at Leeds in 1924. She was a close friend of the Tolkien family for many years
