En reprenant <i>the Atlas of Middle-Earth, revised edition</i> de feu Mmme Fonstad, je suis tombé sur les données suivantes pour la bataille des champs de Pelennor:<p>1.Gondor et alliés<br> Forlong (Lossarnach) -> 200 "well armed"<br> Dervorin (Ringlo Vale) -> 300<br> Duinhir (Morthond) -> 500 "bowmen"<br> Golasgil (Anfalas) -> 150 (estimation) "scantily equipped"<br> - (Lamedon) -> 50 (estimation) "hillmen"<br> - (Ethir Anduin)-> 100 "fisher-folk"<br> Hirluin (Pinnath Gelin)-> 300<br> Imrahil (Dol Amroth) -> 1200 (estimation: 700+une 'compagnie' à cheval)<br> Guarde de Minas Tirith -> 2000 (estimation)<br> Rohirrim -> 6000 cavaliers<br> Aragorn *North company -> 30<br> *Southern Fiefs-> 1000 (estimation)<p>Total estimé des forces du Gondor : 11250<p>2. Mordor et alliés<p>Mordor and Morgul-host ->20000 (estimation)<br>Haradrim ->18000<br>Others (Rhûn and Khand) ->7000 (estimation)<p>Total estimé des forces du Mordor : min. 45000<p>Honnêtement, ces données me semblent nettement plus proches de la réalité de ce que Tolkien avait imaginé: le combat démarre à 10 contre un, après l'arrivée des rohirrims, cela fait toujours du 4 ou 5 contre un... On est quand même loin des 600000 orcs, non ?
