Je note à propos de la quatrième réponse de Tolkien qu'il a également employé le verbe bestrode dans les Contes perdus :
On peut aussi remarquer que c'est une forme fréquemment utilisée par William Morris (The House of the Wolfings, etc.)... de là à supposer que c'est Morris qui a inspiré cette forme à Tolkien...
