Et pourquoi ce ne serait pas un Nazgûl, après tout? Sauron peut très bien avoir nommé un de ses serviteurs principaux d'après l'un des plus puissants serviteurs de Morgoth.
On sait que le Roi-Sorcier était appelé "Morgul-king", "lord of Minas Morgul",...ce qui le place à un rang supérieur (il me semble) par rapport à Gothmog.

PS: au fait, j'ai retrouvé la citation dans le Retour du Roi (VI, 6, p.828): "they had been mustered for the sack of the City and the rape of Gondor, waiting on the call of their Captain. He now was destroyed; but Gothmog the lieutenant of Morgul had flung them into the fray".
