J'ai envie de pinailler sur un détail du débat ;-)Personnellement, j'ai du mal à considérer les Valar comme des 'dieux' ou même des 'anges', ces termes renvoient à des concepts autres que ceux voulus par Tolkien.
Dans la lettre 212, p.284, Tolkien écrit :"The Valar or 'powers, rulers' were the first 'creation': rational spirits or minds without incarnation...the name is properly applied only to the great among them, who take the imaginative but not the theological place of 'gods'."
Plus loin p, 285 :"The uncorrupted Valar...loved them [the Children of Ilúvatar]as creatures 'other' than themselves, independent of them and their artistry, 'children' as being weaker and more ignorant than the Valar, but of equal lineage (deriving being direct from the One)...the corrupted, as was Melkor/Morgoth...Sauron...saw in them the ideal material for slaves, to whom they could become masters and 'gods'..."
Valar, Maiar, Eldar, Atani sont tous des créatures (Enfants ?) d'Eru, l'Unique, êtres doués d'une conscience, incarnés ou non, aux dons différents. Il n'y a que Morgoth qui se voulait tel un dieu païen et cruel. Je n'ai pas le Silmarillion sous la main, mais on retrouve qqpart la même idée.
