Le Guide de Foster ne dit pas grand chose sur la seconde épée. Elle fut forgée dans le même matériau 'météoritique' qu'Anglachel.
Anglachel/Gurthang fut remise à Thingol comme "taxe d'habitation" ( belle définition Leo :-)) et Eol garda l'autre épée, Anguirel. Selon le Silm, son fils Maeglin la lui prit plus tard mais on ne sait pas quand ni comment, ni pourquoi.
"Then Beleg chose Anglachel; and that was a sword of great worth, and it was so named because it was made of iron that fell from heaven as a blazing star; it would cleave all earth-delved iron. One other sword only in Middle-earth was like to it. That sword does not enter into this tale, though it was made of the same ore by the same smith; and that smith was Eöl the Dark Elf, who took Aredhel Turgon's sister to wife. He gave Anglachel to Thingol as fee, which he begrudged, for leave to dwell in Nan Elmoth; but its mate Anguirel he kept, until it was stolen from him by Maeglin, his son."
Anguirel n'est pas mentionnée dans l'index des volumes de HoME, ni dans les UT.
L'Encyclopedia of Arda émet l'hypothèse d'un vol d'Anguirel au moment de la fuite de Maeglin avec sa mère vers Gondolin.
Je suis dubitatif car à ce moment là, Eol était en voyage chez les nains et je il serait étrange qu'il ai laissé sa meilleure épée à la maison. J'imaginais plutôt que Maeglin aurait pu récupérer l'épée de son père après sa condamnation à mort par Turgon.
De toute façon, les textes sont trop sibyllins.
