Mais comment est-ce possible, je me pose la question.
Au cours de ma nième relecture du LotR, je me suis replongé dans les Appendices et le dernier paragraphe de l'Appendix A m'a frappé (désolé, j'ai pas de VF sous la main):
"We have heard tell that Legolas took Gimli Gloin's son with him because of their great friendship, greater than any that has been between Elf and Dwarf . If this is true, then it is strange indeed; that a dwarf should be willing to leave Middle-earth for any love, or that the Eldar should receive him, or that the Lords of the West should permit it . But it is said that Gimli went also out of desire to see again the beauty of Galadriel; and it may be that she, being mighty among the Eldar, obtained this grace for him . More cannot be said of this matter ."
Comme le dit l'auteur, 'it is stange indeed' et je n'arrive pas à voir comment, ou plutôt pour quelle raison Gimli serait parti à l'Ouest, ni pourquoi il aurait été accepté : ce serait le seul de la Compagnie de l'Anneau qui, n'étant pas lui même porteur d'un anneau ou d'origine elfique à rejoindre Valinor (en effet, même Samsagace à porté l'anneau, si peu de temps que ce fut). Alors, j'aimerais avoir votre avis sur la question : Pourquoi, et comment ?
