Totalement d'accord avec toi Nat, les sourires sont aussi très importants chez Tolkien. Pour appuyer ton propos, je n'ai trouvé pour l'instant qu'un passage dans "The return of the shadow" (at Rivendell) où C. Tolkien écrit (à propos des brouillons de son père sur ce chapitre) :
"The description of Elrond, Gandalf and Glorfindel now appear [...] and in almost the same words as in FR [The fellowship of the ring] - but there is mention of Elrond's smile, 'like the summer sun', and his laughter."

Pour ce qui concerne les yeux des elfes (toujours dans le chapitre "Many meetings"), je cite (encore !) Tolkien lorsqu'il décrit Arwen :
"The light of stars was in her bright eyes, grey as a cloudness night."
