Arwen, la mortalité et le Quatrième âge

Le sujet du sort d’Arwen m’a particulièrement intéressé, pour en avoir le cœur net j’avais écrit à Cristopher Tolkien qui m’a très gentiment répondu par une lettre le 14 juin 1998 et voici ce qu’il me disait:

The point is, however, that Arwen became mortal. See p 342 in the appendix A (Aragorn&Arwen), where Elrond said to Aragorn « I fear that to Arwen the doom of Men may seem hard at the ending » and p 343 ‘but Arwen became as a mortal woman and yet it was not her lot TO DIE until all that she had gained was lost » She said to Aragorn in their last speech before he died « there is now no ship that would bear me hence, and I must indeed abide the Doom of Men WETHER I WILL OR I NILL: the loss and the silence ». She saw with clear eyes - Clearer, it may seem, than did Aragorn - that she had no choice.

La lettre se continue ensuite sur le sort de Gimli et de Frodo et Bilbo.

Ce passage de Cristopher Tolkien et les citations du SdA qu’il donne me semble assez claire sur le sort réel D’Arwen
