Le livre d'Allan est daté, certes, mais c'est justement son intérêt : il donne une vision exhaustive des langues inventées ou utilisées par Tolkien en utilisant uniquement les données publiées de son vivant.
Petite précision : il n'est rien dit des malheurs de Túrin dans le SdA, mais le rôle ambivalent de Fëanor est abondamment expliqué dans l'Appendice A du SdA, section « Númenor » :
On peut donc rajouter l'opposition de Fëanor à la volonté des Valar, un bref résumé des guerres des Joyaux, le rôle crucial d'Eärendil comme intercesseur et l'intervention (sous-entendue) des Valar pour renverser Morgoth, sans parler d'un résumé plus complet encore de l'Akallabêth. Bref, le synopsis correspond précisément au Silm. publié, exception faite de l'Ainulindalë et du Valaquenta. Seuls certains personnages majeurs, mais sans influence sur les Âges futurs, sont entièrement omis, tels Fingolfin.
