Concernant cette francisation en -on, Francis Ledoux aurait écrit à Tolkien selon Vincent Ferré, Daniel Lauzon et David Riggs dans leur article Traduire Tolkien en français : On the Translation of Tolkien's Works into French paru dans le recueil Tolkien in Translation sous la direction de Thomas Honegger chez Walking Tree Publishers en 2003 :
.... It is worth reporting that F. Ledoux even told his publisher, Christian Bourgois, that he had written to J.R.R. Tolkien about the translation of such names as "Bilbo", "Frodo", etc., to justify his choices of "Bilbon" and "Frodon", which contradict the author's explicit instructions in Tolkien's "Guide to the Names in The Lord of the Rings...
B.
